Two Rivers Skatepark in Nashville, TN
I choose to review this skatepark first because it's my local spot. The entire park is cement. It has some pretty cool elements, but at the same time some questionable and down a bit scary ones as well. First a bit about the skatepark. It's free! It does say helmets are required, but very few people wear them. I would recommend wearing one in the pools. I've seen a couple nasty bails. The skatepark is located just off of HWY 155, about five miles outside of down town Nashville. It shares a parking lot with an old yet still open during the summer watermark call Wave Country. That should help you find it. The park is open from Sun rise till 11pm at night. The lights will auto magically go off at 11p.m. Best time to skate is morning hours or during school hours. Get there before 10a.m. you might have the park to yourself. Get there anytime after 10a.m. during the summer, or after 3p.m. during the school year and the park gets packed with kids. During the slow time it's usually only skaters, when the kids come out then its skaters, bikers, scooters, in-line. Maybe because I'm an old man skater, I just love it in the morning.
What does this skate park all include?
- Pool Section -
At first glance I was very excited about the pools. The larger one is huge (Top) is 6 to 8 foot transitions, it's a lot of fun to carve. The pool is in pretty good condition. The city also does pretty good with keeping it up with fixing cement issues. I'm not thrilled that the entire large pool is at a pretty good slant, which does mean you have to pump pretty hard to keep up your speed when carving the entire thing. If you break it down and ride it in sections, or ride the spine like a half you won't notice the slant as much. All in all, the large pool can be a lot of fun.
The smaller but much deeper pool (Bottom) scares the hek out of me. I believe it's 12 feet deep on one lend and 10 feet on the other. I don't see many people venture their way into it. It just seems sketchy. I think this would be a great pool for experienced riders, but the "vert" almost goes past vertical. In other words, if you did an air the vert would shoot you back towards the center of the pool. If you got the balls and love to carve, this pool might be great. If you're looking to do lip tricks and airs, be careful.
- Street Section -
The street section is pretty cool. Plenty of opportunity to make some great lines for your runs. The street section includes three fun boxes, one pyramid, an 3 to 4 foot open roll in pool with cooping on one of the corners. The street section also includes four different rails, one on a transition, an extended quarter pool with cooping, steps and a lot of space to roll. The design included a couple small elements within the bigger ones which lead to a lot of possibilities. I really like the size of the street section.
In short, here are my top three take aways: 1. Good Street Section 2. Skate mornings or during school to avoid the rush. 3. Pools could have been better, but still pretty fun to skate.
If you've skated this park, I'd love to hear what you think!
