Veterans Skatepark - Hendersonville, TN

Ever have one of those times when you drive up to a skatepark and your thinking there is no way this is here. This looks amazing! Well, this is not one of those times. Let's do this!

The positive spin on this is that this is better than having no skatepark at all. My home town in WI has a skatepark like this. Not very glamourous. All metal ramps. Now rusting. Nothing like putting on all your pads but still wondering if you're going to have to get a tetanus shot if you bail. Veterans Skatepark is in Hendersonville, TN. Obviously located at Veterans Park, right off highway 386.

I tell myself no matter how bad or how great and over my head a skatepark is, I have to skate it for 30 minutes to give it a fair shot. The concrete is smooth. The park has a four foot quarter pipe, fun box, other random boxes you can move around, rails, hump rail, park benches and a picnic table. From that list you should be able to creative and come up with a fun skate session. But a warning. All the rails, ramps and the metal box are rusting and sketchy. The metal sheets at the bottom of the ramps are uneven. Skating on and of the ramps is like hitting a big sidewalk crack. Here are some more pics.

This park is usually full of little kids in the summer who's moms are across the street watching their other kid play baseball or soccer. Lots of soccer moms. I guess this park might seem cool, if there wasn't a much better skatepark 20 minutes away with concrete bowls and much better street section.

In short, here are my top three take aways: 1. I really don't care for metal skateparks. 2. I bet when the summer heat hits those ramps, it melts your skin off if you bail and slide down them. 3. I actually said a prayer before I rolled in on the bank ramp to skate over the fun box and up the quarter.

Have you been here? What's your thoughts?
