Music City Skate Jam
On 9/10/17 (I know this happened a long time ago, but I just started this blog) Tony Hawk Foundation and Country music artist Kip Moore put on the Music City Skate Jam here in Nashville, TN. In case you don't know, The Tony Hawk Foundation raises money to empower kids through building skateparks. Kip raises money for kids as well. In this case, a lot of the money also went to Hurricane victims. Here are my takeaways from the event and some pics I took.
Of course I was looking forward to seeing Hawk skate. But I had no clue that Kevin Staab was going to be there. Like being a fan of Hawk, I've been a huge Staab fan for many years. I used to skate his mini pirate deck when I was younger. I also didn't expect to become a fan of other younger skaters. Watching Elliot Sloan skate was pretty dam amazing. I suggest to anyone to follow his Instagram. When Hawk dropped in I picked up my phone and took pics for the first couple runs. Got a couple pics of everyone else. Then put the phone away and just enjoyed the hell out of it. They skated for a long time, singles and doubles. Hawk and Sloan were the most impressive skaters. Love watching Staab skate. After the session was done, the skaters came out and signed autographs for the kids, and yes a 41 year old skater that felt like he was 15 again.
In short, here are my top three take aways: 1. If you skate now, or used to skate, or just think skateboarding is cool go to these skate demos. They are a great time. 2. Support foundations like the Tony Hawk Foundation. 3. Open your mind to become a fan of new school skaters, and follow them on social media.
