Saiz's Totem Pole Deck
This deck has always been sick. Around 1990, my best friend got this deck for Christmas. His was red. I was jealous. Many websites who rate skateboard graphics rate this deck in the top 15. It's still one of my favorites. Let's do this!
- About this deck -
In the late 1980s Steve Saiz joined Powell Peralta and became a member of the infamous "Bones Brigade". Saiz toured the world with the Bones Brigade into the 90s. In 1989, his pro model Totem Pole Deck came out. The reissue for this deck came out in 2017. Though his buffalo deck was also cool, this is the deck most skaters think of when they hear Steve Saiz's name. It's interesting to see one of these decks today. I forgot how wide it was. The shape of the deck was a lot like the spoon shapes of the late 80s. The graphics were designed by Sean Cliver. Native art graphics have been popular for deck graphics for a long time, but i believe it's pretty easy to see why this is a fan favorite.
Original Dimensions: Length - 30", Width - 9.75", Deck Shape 282, Concave SP3

Though Cliver designed these graphics, Steve Saiz went on to have a great graphics career of his own. He has been an art director for such companies as DC shoes and Quicksilver. He has worked as director of graphics for TV networks like Spike, Food Channel, AMC, Hallmark and more.
Here are my top three take aways from doing this article. 1. I don't believe a skateboard collection is complete without this deck. 2. There is a great Sk8TV on youtube that features Saiz. 3. I can't believe this deck came out 28 years ago.
Do you still have this deck? Did you have this deck? Did you get the reissue? Got a pic? We'd love to see it! Post it in the comments!
